"A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise."
- Aldo Leopold
What`s going well?
Enthusing other people on the ground, thinking creatively. Sourcing funding for the furtherance of forest gardening project. Attending a course. "Developing skills in Forest Gardening" that will aid me in delivering to participants at work. Expanding my library of reference books. Setting aside time for relaxation and inspiration in the outdoors with family and friends.
What`s been challenging?
Time management.
Dealing with people in authority opposed to unconventional agricultural methodology.
Next achievable steps?
Integrating two new projects for output 3.
- Applying permaculture ethics and principles to the raising of our son, Seth.
- Getting to grips with technology.
Long term goal?
Evolution leading to the fusion of individual projects into a "bigger picture" holistic design for living.
Time log
My time has been divided for this output of my diploma portfolio between projects.
Research; A constant and evolving process, it is difficult to accurately assess the time spent researching. 20 hours would be a conservative estimate!
Designing on paper; 8 hours
Collating evidence with computer; 12 hours
Actual physical work; Much of the physical work began last year in the case of some of the projects highlighted. More recently, especially in the case of "Integrating permaculture design into my work place" a percentage of time has been spent mostly doing leg work, meeting people and putting the case for a forest garden forward; 2 hours
Total time spent on this output; 42 hours
Resources
Digital camera, pen and paper and Microsoft word.
The internet and numerous reference books referred to in the individual project pages.
Inspiration and support from my fellow diploma apprentices, tutor and our learning guilds.
Inspiration from nature, and undoubtedly one of the most indispensable resources that has aided greatly with compiling this output is the holistic thinking, support and involvement of my partner, Alex.
